BIG 92.7 FM, Bangalore celebrates Children’s Film Festival of India

BIG 92.7 FM, the Station that offers a platform for self expression is the official Radio partner for the Children’s Film Festival being organized by Children’s India for the 4^th consecutive year. The event was inaugurated on the 18^th of Feb by K.V.R. Tagore, Commissioner Information Department, and Thallam Nanjunda Shetty, President of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce with presence of Kannada film stars such as Upendra and Puneeth Rajkumar. This is the largest event of its kind targeted at children across Bangalore city & beyond. BIG 92.7 FM has been associated with this cultural festival as the official Radio Partner and has lined up a host of on-air programs and live interviews. Sandalwood Actor & Director Upendra is the brand ambassador of the festival. This year Children’s India has expanded its reach to 4 cities – Bangalore, Mangalore, Hassan & Davangere and has tied-up with popular cinema halls across these cities. A total of over 30 films specially short listed from various Indian languages is being aired during the course of this week. Children’s India has created a platform that provides free access to children who cannot afford to watch such films.

BIG 92.7 FM RJ’s across Bangalore, Mangalore & Mysore are promoting Children’s Film Festival programs on-air with special updates on the various movies being screened across cinema halls in the city on a day to day basis. Taking forward its offering as a platform for self expression, the Station is hosting several popular celebs and child artists on air wherein they speak about their experiences working on their movies targeted solely at youngsters.

Tarun Katial, COO, BIG 92.7 FM on Budget’08

Commenting on the expectations of the industry from the budget this time, Tarun Katial, Chief Operating Officer, BIG 92.7 FM said that they expect reduction in Service Tax, especially given that the Radio industry is still in its infancy and has great employment and media opportunities in the semi-urban and rural markets. In addition lowering of income tax rates is needed for the Radio industry.

Talking about the wish list for the budget 2008, he mentioned 3 items. First is 8 year tax holiday to FM Radio Operators. Radio Broadcasting should be removed from the ambit of Service Tax, just like print media. He said that Fringe Benefit Tax is a non deductible expense. If a concession in the qualifying rates is provided to radio operators it would really provide a competitive advantage and a boost to the Radio Industry.

He also mentioned that print media is kept outside the ambit of service tax and the same benefit should be extended to radio as well, if we want to establish a level playing field. If not, the local advantage extended by radio as a medium will diminish. Additionally, Radio Operators are required to pay license fees on 4% of Gross Revenues wherein, Gross Revenues include Service Tax, resulting in double taxation.

A further increase in Service Tax and Income Tax rates is something they are clearly not looking forward to. In addition, a levy of new surcharges will be another burden to the operators, he added. When asked that what would be the three key initiatives you would take if you were the FM Minister? He said that he would recommend increased investment in education and infrastructure and provide greater incentives to the service sector.

Big 92.7 FM, Bangalore employees visit Asha Nilaya

As part of the company’s second Anniversary Week celebrations over 12 employees of Big FM Bangalore office visited Asha Nilaya, an orphanage in Ejipura, Bangalore on 12th Feb. Employees of Big FM along with RJ Rashmi entertained over 30 children housed there with songs and games. They also distributed snacks and chocolates to these children. In a special moment, RJ Rashmi connected some of these children with RJ Deepu who put them on air to sing on the radio.

The orphanage houses around 30 underpriveleged children who are taken care by Asha Nilaya. The orphanage has a few foreign volunteers helping them out on a rotation basis.

CELEBRATE VALENTINE’S DAY WITH BIG 92.7 FM

BIG 92.7 FM Gets the “Skeleton Squad” to spread awareness on “Smoking Causes Cancer”

February 4^th is recognized as World Cancer Day and BIG 92.7 FM, as part of its endeavor to be the Radio Station that reflects the “Vibe of the City”, kick started an innovative awareness activity called “The Skeleton Squad” to spread awareness on “Smoking Causes Cancer”. The Skeleton squad consists of people wearing skeleton outfits sporting various messages to spread awareness on “No Smoking”. 

The Skeleton squad went across to various parts of the city and made smokers its victim. Wherever the squad found smokers it would go across to them and sport various messages related to “Smoking Causes Cancer”. The squad also offered chocolates in return for their cigarettes being stubbed and thrown away.

Bangalore 2nd Feb’08: BIG 92.7 FM, Bangalore’s No 1 Radio Station, played host to popular Sandalwood celebrities who were visiting the BIG FM studio to interact with their listeners on the popular show ‘No Tension’.

BIG 92.7 FM’s popular evening show ‘NO TENSION’ which is aired between 5.00 pm – 9.00 pm on weekdays had the pleasant opportunity to bring on-air the sizzling Actress Daisy Bopanna to interact with listeners and talk about her experiences during the shoot of her latest venture “Galipata” with super star Ganesh. ‘Galipata’ was the most awaited release for the month after the success of Actor Ganesh in ‘Mungaru Male’. It was a nostalgic moment for Daisy as she went back to her college days and the time when she had shot her first movie.

The station also hosted Music Director Guru Kiran on 31^st Jan and Actor Vijay Raghavendra on 1^st Feb. They had just completed their latest movie ‘Beladingalagi Baa’ which was slated for release on 1^st Feb across theatres in the state. Over 100 free couple tickets for this movie’s premier show were given on air to lucky listeners. Actor Vijay Raghavendra was also part of this special movie screening on 1^st Feb.
